Dear, dear Rocky G is back “home”at TRHQ. Rocky G arrived in March, 2025 and stepped out from his long flight the sweetest, chillest boy. He was rescued from the streets of PR in December 2023 and had to undergo FHO surgery to repair a broken hip but has made a wonderful recovery. He loves other dogs, kids, people and is truly a gentle soul looking for his family. He loves his crate, loves walks and is an all-around good boy!
Many of our satos are small (under 20lb) because Flight Angels bring them to us as pets in carriers.
Please note that we generally do not adopt outside of a 75-minute radius of the Greater Washington D.C. area.

Rico (Rio) | 18 mnths | 47 lbs

Rio’s journey began back in February when our founder, Moira, met him in San Juan, PR, and promised him a home stateside. In April, he got his freedom flight to us! From the moment he arrived, he was a perfect gentleman: sweet, gentle, potty-trained, and just a little shy. We soon realized this gorgeous 37-pound boy with the most beautiful "eyeliner" just needed a canine friend to help his confidence soar.
It took a long time but Rico was very happy at TRHQ and eventually he met his perfect family. Brian, Keri, and Corinne had just returned from a trip to Puerto Rico and were so moved by the stray satos they saw. They fell head over heels for a specific sato hanging outside a restaurant, spent the afternoon with him, and even named him Rico. They went to great lengths to arrange a vet visit and boarding so as to bring him home, but tragically, he couldn't be found after they made the arrangements. They were devastated but now determined to give a deserving sato a home, and that’s when they found us!
The family shared that our Rio looks like the dog they met in Puerto Rico, The story gets even better! They have a dog named Pudge, who immediately took to Rico! The two are already the best of friends, and it's clear Pudge is helping Rico settle in. For his first night in his new home, Rico slept in the bed with Brian, Keri, and Pudge—snuggled between his new parents and sleeping back-to-back with his new best buddy.

Sweet, sweet little Tommy caught the eyes of Megan and Melissa when we participated in an adoption event at Savage Festival. They couldn’t get him out of their mind and decided to make it offical this weekend. He joins the rest of the pack and will spend his days playing with pups, large and small. We are thrilled for this cute little boy. Now they are just waiting for a freedom flight.

Sweet, funny, chill old soul Scruffy went to the Savage Fest and found his forever home when Sarah and Hazel happened to pass by our booth! They came to meet him and couldn’t resist his cute sweet ways. Hazel is loving having a buddy to sleep with and Golden can’t believe his luck. There are no words to say how happy we are that Hugo found his forever home with Kristie, Matt and sato, Nellie. This old soul sweetheart had a rough start to life but that is all over now. Hugo will be spending his days playing with TR sato, Nellie in the large backyard and cozying up to her and mom and dad on the king size bed at night! Oliver “Ollie” (FKA Max Felix) has officially found his forever family and it was worth the wait! ✨. Elana & Steve 👫 had been patiently searching for the perfect pup to complete their family and sweet Ollie was the missing piece! Now he’s off to a life filled with love, long walks, and unlimited belly rubs and chilling in mom’s lap. Mom and Dad are just thrilled with this sweet little boy.

Megan grew up with Scottish Terriers and at first we thought she was that! Megan and Ben quickly reached out to meet her and it was love at first sight. From meeting to being home was a short one hour! Megan and Ben named her Hazel in honor of her hazel flavored, Nutella! We are thrilled for her as she starts her new life. Rescued in the rain on a very busy avenue in Carolina (Rio Padras) PR. Miss Nutella is an easy-going, happy little girl. Watch her here when she first arrived!

This sweet boy arrived happy, friendly and ready to charm all who met him and he did just that with TR foster, Suhey. Within days of welcoming him into her home, she realized she wanted to give him a forever home. She had to work out a few commitments but she knew he had found his place in her heart. Welcome home Rocky. He was found at the point of death from starvation on the side of the street, those days are now over for him. Watch him on his first couple of days at TRHQ!

We discovered Miss ViVi thrives around other dogs and she found her pawfect companion in Appa. Mary and Tony saw her profile and thought she would make would be the yin to Appa’s yan. In just a few minutes, we saw the magic. She headed home with them and is settling in nicely. She also joins a home with kitties and she seems to take them in stride. Ozzie is a happy, easy-going little guy who is playful, happy and fun who caught the eye of Josh and Blakely. Once they met him, they were certain he was the perfect pup for them. Rocky G cught the eyes and hearts of many of our TR fans. No wonder! He is a gentle, sweet, calm and lovely guy who just wants to be loved. Qi fell in love with those eyes and quickly completed the applicaition and arranged to meet him with the intention to take him home. We couldn’t be happier for Rocky who spent almost two years in his rescue home in PR until we were able to get him his freedom flight! Sweet as can be and within less than a week, a foster fail! Foster mom, Emily, couldn’t resist saying, “YES”. Sweet Bluey has the most unique coloring. Don’t be fooled from the photo, this sweetie is a very petite little pup of 24 lbs. calm, quiet, sweet and gentle, he loves to chill in his crate when nothing is going on but if there is a pup to play with, he is ready. Emily saw Trish’s bio and was smitten from the word go. Upon meeting her, she was ready to sign, seal and take home. Mom says she is doing amazing her first couple of nights home. And the commitment to rescue continues, as they'll be relocating to California to expand Toby Rescue, launching its West Coast chapter.

This little cutie is gentle, sweet, and dainty. Danielita, or as we lovingly call her, Dani arrived to the DMV and quickly settled into her foster home with Sofia. No matter as a foster or a permanent addition since Sofia works evenings, Larissa, who is fostering Daisy Belle and lives in the same building, will be her nighttime foster mom! 🥰

Sandy, Sandy, Sandy, our little tiny blind chi mix. Foster Extraordinaire, Larissa, flew to PR to pick up her baby sight unseen. It was a quick whirlwind trip of 30 hours and now Sandy is home! Soon she will be flaunting her way around Friendship Heights in a variety of adorable outfits because mom went to town and ordered up a full wardrobe for this cutie! As a bonus, Larissa says that she, Vito and Sandy plan to continue to welcome fosters into their home!

After two years waiting his turn at our partner rescue in Puerto Rico, ZamZam is HOME! Shelley finally realized she was ready for her next pup after a long break to heal her heart when she saw him and immediately reached out. His gratitude is evident when he cuddles up close and says, "Thank you, thank you for taking a chance on me." Zamzam is a wonderful companion who gets along beautifully with both cats and dogs. Zamzam settles in his crate at night or when you are busy working. Watch this amazing sweetie!

After spending time at Toby’s Rescue HQ and then being loved by their amazing foster paw-rent, Emily. Today they’re off to their happily ever after with Jules and Mikayla! 🎉🐾

Little Miss Suzie Q's journey to her forever home is the kind of story that warms your heart! This sweet girl came to us through Hatton Animal Sanctuary. She had a broken pelvis when she went to Hatton. After surgery and several months of recovery, Suzie Q landed in the foster home of foster mom, amazing Kathleen. And, well, it was meant to be! After a month of fostering, Kathleen knew Suzie Q was family. Now, this lucky lady is officially home, snuggling with her new kitty and cockatoo siblings. And the best part? She's the purrfect little hostess, greeting Kathleen's clients with a warm welcome and a wagging tail. We're beyond happy for Suzie Q.

A huge congratulations to Ambyr who discovered Toby’s Rescue because of another TR alum family who agreed to foster Winston for a few days to make sure 16 year old Tucker was ready to accept another pup in the hom. They decided to foster with the intention to adopt, and just three weeks later, Astro is now living his best life in his forever home! A sweet tucker. Rescued from a life in a crate, it took a village to get this sweet boy to where he is today, happy, well-adjusted, sweet and loved. In less than a month he has gained 5 lbs. Nina, Dala, Cole and Nala were looking to add a pup to their family and when they saw his video, it was love, love, love! His bestie is TR alum, Cali and they love to have playdates. Bubu arrived as 2024 closed with TR adopters, Deming and Jiaxing. They fostered him for a couple of days while he decompressed and then Mary saw his sweet face and knew he would be the perfect canine brother for Joy. The boys, Grant and Will are also thrilled to welcome this sweet boy home
